Nvidia Negotiates $250B Financing Guarantee for OpenAI’s World’s Largest AI Data Center

According to a July 26 report from The Wall Street Journal citing sources familiar with the matter, Nvidia is in advanced talks with OpenAI to provide approximately $250 billion in financing guarantees for its 10GW hyperscale data center project in Ohio. Developed by SoftBank's SB Energy, the project has a total investment of over $500 billion including chips, and will become the world's largest AI computing infrastructure cluster upon completion.The guarantee covers data center leasing and construction financing, excluding Nvidia chip procurement costs. Since OpenAI does not yet have an investment-grade credit rating, Nvidia's credit backing will help the project secure lower-cost debt financing. The first 800MW phase is scheduled to go live in 2028, with power resources coordinated by the U.S. government and funded by Japan.This deal marks the largest single infrastructure financing arrangement in AI history, signaling Nvidia's transformation from a pure chip supplier to an "AI infrastructure bank" building a complete closed loop of "chip supply - computing construction - capital support".
