Google Rolls Out Android 17 with Deeply Integrated Gemini AI

On June 17, Google officially began rolling out Android 17 globally alongside Wear OS 7. The centerpiece of this update is the deep integration of Gemini Intelligence directly into the system kernel, marking the Android ecosystem's full transition from a traditional app platform to AI agent-powered computing. Breaking the limitation of AI existing only as standalone apps, the system can automatically execute multi-step tasks across applications with user authorization — such as reading a memo shopping list and placing orders in retail apps. The OS also integrates the Lyria 3 music generation model and Gemini Omni multimodal capabilities, supporting text-to-music creation and conversational video editing. Real-time voice translation powered by AudioLM is available on Pixel devices. Core AI features will roll out in phases, starting with Pixel devices first, with other Android brands following in the coming months.
