Alipay Launches AI Assistant "A Bao" in Biggest-Ever Redesign, Super Apps Go AI-Native
On June 16, Alipay officially launched its largest redesign ever, fully rolling out its AI assistant "A Bao." Users can access the conversational interface with a right-swipe gesture, completing tens of thousands of services—from utility payments and travel bookings to healthcare and wealth management—through natural language commands. This marks the world's first fully AI-reconstructed super app, signaling a paradigm shift from "tool matrix" to "conversational intelligence gateway" for mobile payment platforms. The new version is currently invite-only and will gradually open to all users. Reports indicate WeChat Pay is also testing an "AI Exclusive Card" feature with Tencent's WorkBuddy agent, as China's two payment giants race toward AI-native interaction.
