Anthropic's Flagship AI Models Pulled Globally Just 72 Hours After Launch by US Government
On June 14, Anthropic released an official statement that its newly launched models Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 received an export control order from the US Commerce Department three days after launch. The rule bans all foreign users, including foreign staff within Anthropic. Unable to accurately identify user nationality, the firm suspended global access entirely. A jailbreak vulnerability reported by Amazon’s security team triggered the ban. Anthropic argued the US government only provided verbal evidence and is negotiating to restore service.
